Spring 2011 "If you keep your head and heart going in the right direction, you won't have to worry about your feet." -- African Proverb (Mission Today) Dear League Sisters: A Blessed New Year to all. After the Christmas and New Year celebrations it is time to get back on track with all our tasks. I hope one of your new year's resolutions is to keep a watch on what is happening in parliament and in the legislature. Are you in contact with your MP and MPP? Bill C593 a national strategy for suicide prevention was tabled in November 2010 by Megan Leslie and seconded by Carol Hughes. Both Leslie and Carol are calling for the government to examine the strategy laid out in the legislation and urge the Health Minister to take immediate action to establish such a strategy. Keep watch on this bill. Unfortunately, Bill C510 "Roxanne's Law" was defeated just before Christmas. Please continue to be vigilant. Continue to pray that the euthanasia bill will be defeated in all countries. The topics under this chair include: Marriage and Family, Sanctity of Life, Ministry to Youth, Seniors, Disabled, Widowed, Separated, Divorced, Singles and Vocations. I hope your council has tried a new activity this past fall or will try a new activity this year. Our Diocesan pamphlet 'Abortion, Risks and Consequences', based on the 2009 resolution, has been distributed to our school boards. We are continuing to work with the School Sisters of Notre Dame on the human trafficking problem. A letter and poster have been developed to be distributed to all school boards. This is a horrendous problem in the world including Canada. A new book by Benjamin Perrin. Invisible Chains. paints a picture of Canada's involvement. Be aware of what is happening around you.Call 911 or Crime Stoppers if you spot a problem. Mrs. Joy Smith, Member of Parliament, Kildonan is circulating a petition a National Action Plan to combat Human Trafficking. I have copies of this petition. Continue to be aware of Elder Abuse. Have you completed your "Just in Case" list? Are you celebrating a special wedding anniversary this year? 25, 40, 50 60 or 60 plus? Contact your parish office for details. Please pray for our priests and seminarians to keep them strong in their vocations. The vocation Mass is on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Holy Cross Parish , Georgetown. We hope to see you at Mass. May Our Lady of Good Counsel keep us strong in our mission for God and Canada. God Bless! Anna top of page | Directives | Home Send us your comments, ideas and suggestions. |
